Andrés Maldonado

Andrés Maldonado is a senior advisor and associate partner at Cambridge Advisors to Family Enterprise, a specialized, international advisory firm serving family enterprises. Cambridge Advisors and the Cambridge Institute for Family Enterprise, an education and research institute, are divisions of Cambridge Family Enterprise Group, a global organization, founded in 1989. It is devoted to helping families and ownership groups navigate the new economy and achieve multigenerational success for their families, enterprises, and financial wealth.

Based in Bogotá, Mr. Maldonado advises family-owned companies and conglomerates throughout the world on achieving long-term sustainability of their family assets. He co-heads the Latin American initiative for the Cambridge Family Enterprise Group developed in conjunction with Virtus Partners. His work is devoted to advising owners on their enterprise vision, total portfolio, governance, strategy, and organization. He has extensive experience assisting family business owners with upgrading their business organizations and governance systems, planning and executing leadership transitions between generations, and setting up investment companies and single family offices. He is a specialist in innovation management and disruptive technologies and advises owner councils and boards of directors on industry disruptions, innovation and digitalization strategies, and how to compete in today’s changing world.

Mr. Maldonado has served as chairman and board member of several organizations and owner councils. He speaks at conferences on the topics of disruptive trends and business strategy, corporate governance, board leadership, and multigenerational success strategies. He has served as a facilitator at Harvard Business School’s Families in Business program, and is a frequent speaker at programs for the Family Business Network. He serves as a board member of Filantropía Transformadora, an impact investing organization.

A seasoned consultant to businesses worldwide, Mr. Maldonado was a senior partner at McKinsey & Co., where he worked for more than 15 years and was Head of the Family Business Practice for Latin America from 2007 to 2010. Prior to that, he worked at Citibank. He has extensive experience in strategy for the financial sector, having served the banking and corporate governance teams of several of the leading banks and financial institutions.

Mr. Maldonado earned his M.B.A. and M.I.M., both with honors, from Thunderbird School of Global Management (USA and Switzerland), and B.S. in Business Administration from CESA School of Business (Colegio de Estudios Superiores de Administración). He has lived and worked in New York, São Paulo and Bogotá, and has worked extensively throughout The Americas. He is fluent in English, Spanish, and Portuguese.
