FAMILY COUNCIL PROJECT COORDINATOR (PART-TIME)

The Family Council Project Coordinator (FCPC) is responsible for supporting the operational needs of a family council. A family council is a forum of family members connected to a family business who oversee the social, educational, informational, and strategic needs of a business owning family. Activities of a family council include, but are not limited to: • Organizing informational meetings about the family enterprise • Planning gatherings that promote family connection and collaboration • Establishing an educational agenda that promotes the learning of family business best practices and the knowledge and skills necessary to support the successful continuity of a family enterprise • Facilitating communication among family members and between the family and the family enterprise A family council meets quarterly in-person (locations vary within the US) and by phone when needed. The Project Coordinator is a critical support member helping to facilitate the family council’s ability to achieve its mission.

FAMILY COUNCIL PROJECT COORDINATOR (Part-Time)

JOB TITLE: Project Coordinator (Part-time with potential for a full-time role in the future)

LOCATION: Detroit, Michigan

 

POSITION PURPOSE

The Family Council Project Coordinator (FCPC) is responsible for supporting the operational needs of a family council.  A family council is a forum of family members connected to a family business who oversee the social, educational, informational, and strategic needs of a business owning family. Activities of a family council include, but are not limited to:

  • Organizing informational meetings about the family enterprise
  • Planning gatherings that promote family connection and collaboration
  • Establishing an educational agenda that promotes the learning of family business best practices and the knowledge and skills necessary to support the successful continuity of a family enterprise
  • Facilitating communication among family members and between the family and the family enterprise

A family council meets quarterly in-person (locations vary within the US) and by phone when needed. The Project Coordinator is a critical support member helping to facilitate the family council’s ability to achieve its mission.

 

PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES

  • Family council operational support

    • Participates in the development and implementation of Family Council management systems and processes that ensure solid operating practices
    • Manages the Family Council’s annual calendar, coordinating and setting schedules, as needed
    • Helps prepare and circulates meeting materials for the Family Council
    • Helps prepare and circulates communications for the Family Council
    • Provides organizational coordination and tracks participation in Family Council events and functions
    • Facilitates the tracking, budget management and reimbursement processes related to Family Council activities
    • Participates in and helps organize Family, Family Council, and Family Council Committee meetings, as requested
    • Oversees the completion of action items defined in Family Council and Family meetings

 

WORKING RELATIONSHIPS

The FCPC will interface with the Family Council Chair, the Family Council and its Committees, and the Family. In addition, this position will coordinate with the administrative support teams of other entities within and outside the Family Enterprise.  This position reports to and is evaluated by the Family Council. 

 

PROFESSIONAL QUALIFICATIONS

  • Minimum 5 years of relevant experience supporting executives or governance forums such as a for profit or nonprofit boards.
  • Experience working with ultra-high net worth individuals
  • Honors confidentiality and related protocols
  • Demonstrated people skills: effective communication, respectful interaction skills
  • Effective business communication skills: written and verbal
  • Background in project management, business and management
  • Understands family governance best practices
  • Demonstrated experience in effectively planning and implementing educational and other events
  • Proficient in use of software such as Office 365, social media platforms, etc.
  • Flexibility to work from home and on-site as needed
  • Ability to travel occasionally
  • Undergraduate degree required
  • M.B.A. desirable
