Alexandre da Cunha is a senior advisor and associate partner at Cambridge Advisors to Family Enterprise, a highly specialized international advisory firm serving family enterprises. Cambridge Advisors and Cambridge Institute for Family Enterprise, an education and research institute, are divisions of Cambridge Family Enterprise Group, a global organization founded in 1989. It is devoted to helping families achieve multigenerational success for their families, enterprises, and financial wealth.

Mr. da Cunha is the leader of the Family Business Initiative at the Nova School of Business and Economics in Lisbon, Portugal. He is the academic director of the school’s “Managing the Family Business” program, a four-day executive program for families in business. He is co-author of the book, Como Liderar Empresas Familiares (January 2017, Lua de Papel).

Mr. da Cunha advises family-owned enterprises on the strategies for the successful continuity of their enterprises. He has assisted multigenerational families on a range of issues, including the preparation and implementation of succession plans, and the initiation of a fair process for decision-making and principles of behavior among the ownership group.

Since 2001, Mr. da Cunha has served as a board member of Companhia do Pipeline, a Mozambican company operating in downstream oil and gas. He is also the CFO of Vumba, the family office for the da Cunha family.

Mr. da Cunha started his professional career as a consultant with McKinsey in Lisbon and Madrid, where he was an active member of the consumer goods and retailing practice. He went on to work for Grupo Pão de Açúcar, a diversified, family-owned retailer with operations in Iberia, holding various positions including manager for private label brands and general manager for the group's discount chain. In 1997, as a third-generation family member, Mr. da Cunha joined his family’s business activities, where he held several positions in various companies.

Mr. da Cunha is a graduate of INSEAD – Fontainebleau (MBA, 1991), and he holds a B.S. in Business Administration from Universidade Católica Portuguesa – Lisbon. While Portuguese and German are his native languages, he is also fluent in English, French, and Spanish.
