ABOUT THIS LIST

Welcome to Cambridge Institute for Family Enterprise’s 17 Next Generation Family Enterprise Leaders to Watch in 2017 List. We searched the world for game changing global business leaders, entrepreneurs, and philanthropists under 50.

Those listed are inheritors, innovators, and newsmakers who are leading change in businesses and social enterprises controlled by their families–some for generations. These successors regard it as their duty to build upon the legacy that came before them. Their mission is to leave their enterprises and the world better than they received them. They insist on defying the three-generation proverb warning that wealth and success gained in one generation will be lost by the third generation. Not on their watch.

The List is the first of its kind, highlighting an emerging trend in global leadership: social impact. Committed to social impact activities that they are actively involved in, the leaders on the List epitomize the style that will be the norm for the Millennial generation rising to leadership, power, and influence around the world. Economic gain is inadequate and unsatisfying to them unless they can use it to improve the world. As Adriana Cisneros put it, “Giving back is a big part of who I am and how I like to do business.”

What it means to be a great leader is changing fast. These inspiring leaders have set the new rules. In their family companies and their family foundations, it’s no longer enough to lead without contributing to the wellbeing of the world.

Get to know these leaders and how they are shaping the globe.
